Hurricane Helene Communications Update

hurricane update

In response to Hurricane Helene, Ryan Transportation has been in close communication with freight providers in Florida and Georgia, emergency response organizations and our nationwide carrier network. We are continually monitoring updates from the National Weather Service, Florida and Georgia DOT and other emergency response teams on Hurricane Helene. The predicted Category 3 hurricane is anticipated to make landfall Thursday evening along Florida’s Gulf Coast and panhandle and is projected to affect areas across Georgia as it travels northeast.

Currently, a state of emergency has been declared for 61 counties in Florida and the entire state of Georgia.

Scheduling Impacts

Delays and interruptions are expected, as the storm and resulting damage is anticipated to significantly impact carrier capacity heading into Florida, Georgia and, in turn, across the country. Additionally, we expect to see a surge in freight volume for disaster relief.

If you have any questions about shipments into or out of affected areas, contact your Ryan Transportation account representative. We also recommend you review any outbound or inbound orders to or from the affected areas and plan to reschedule those orders. We highly recommend that you call locations in these areas to confirm when they will reopen. If you have orders in transit with Ryan Transportation, we will continue to maintain contact with these locations on your behalf.

Overall, transit times for hauling freight nationwide are likely to be extended and delayed due to the ripple effect. Please know that the team at Ryan Transportation is working hard to ensure as little disruption as possible for your existing and upcoming shipments. Additionally, our rapid response team will be working closely with disaster relief organizations, including FEMA. If you need transportation support related to disaster relief, please email rapidresponse@ryantrans.com.

Impact on Available Capacity

Natural disasters, including hurricanes, tend to impact transportation costs nationwide. Carriers may be unable to travel through or around storm areas for several days or weeks, likely increasing out-of-route miles on shipments. Available capacity may also be impacted as FEMA sources trucks for necessary relief efforts.

Please feel free to contact Ryan Transportation with any questions, for additional information or if you need transportation support related to disaster relief efforts.
